Aisha's Style

images via dulhan diaries and like cinema

We recently watched Aisha and kept thinking about the outfits long after the movie was over (based on Emma and Clueless, the entire movie is a fun ode to fashion!). These are some of our favorite bridal looks and they really made us think about jewelry and dupatta options for weddings.

We love that Aisha balanced out the statement necklace and tikka by only choosing to wear one or the other for each look (a perfect way to use jewelry once the wedding is over too). Also, love that the dupatta on her lilac and white Anamika Khanna lehnga is draped so traditionally and since it's pinned wider on the shoulder it really draws attention to the beadwork on the cloth.

Plus, we're huge fans of Anamika Khanna's designs so of course we loved seeing them in the movie.

Naaths

A traditional piece of jewelry that never goes out of style is the nose ring (naath). It has that timeless, romantic quality to it.

However, to be honest it's probably not something we would wear on the big day because we'd be too self-conscious about our noses! Another point to take into consideration is that if you wear the round hoop, be aware that it might constantly stick against your lipstick and a lot of reapplications might be necessary. Maybe it could be something you wear for the ceremony and then take off for the reception, like this bride?

How do you feel about the naath? Would you wear one on your big day?

Flowers and Hair

Speaking of flowers and headpieces, we wanted to share this image we recently stumbled upon - an interesting twist on the traditional flower headpiece look. We're kinda digging it, what say you?

It kind of makes us want to frolic through fields slow motion filmi-style (even though you know those fields are actually really muddy).

What Do You Think?

The other day we were talking about panjas and couldn't decide how we felt about them. They are wonderfully traditional (especially in epic movies) and this bride pulled something similar off beautifully...but can they be too much when combined with all your other jewelry?

So we want to know what you think, are panjas a yay or a nay?

A Flair for Hair (pieces)

We have quite a thing for the ban.do headpieces that have taken the blogging world by storm. After all, they're just so much fun to play with. But it made us a little sad on the inside thinking that we could never pull them off with our eastern outfits and so we quietly relegated the look to the western side of the closet.

But then...we were so excited to see the styling of Nickie and Nina's recent collection with some very ban.do-esque headpieces. Check it out.

And here are some of our favorite pieces from ban.do's bridal collection:

This just makes us want to be more adventurous with our look (like some of our very stylish readers). And yes this might not work if you're the actual bride because you have so much other jewelry going on. But maybe as a bridesmaid or even a guest? We also love the idea of wearing these for an engagement session.

p.s. - If you do decide to rock this look at whatever party you attend, please let us know! We'd love to see how you guys pull it off because we're nosy like that.

Did We Say Headpieces?

Speaking of headpieces, check out these styles from Nicole Richie's House of Harlow 1960 jewelry line. These could work equally well for your wedding or a casual night out.*

And you all know how much we love the idea of jewelry that can be used once the wedding is over.

*We admit, not everyone can pull off the boho chic look quite like Nicole, but we can try (or at the very least dream).

All Decked Out: Headpieces

One of the best things about a desi wedding is all the experimenting that you get to do with your jewelry - you literally get to bejewel yourself from head to toe. Today we thought we'd focus on head pieces: here's a small sample from the simply pretty to the wildly extravagant.

So fair readers, do tell if you know where the best place is to buy such headpieces. We'd love to know!

Accessories Accessories

South Asian weddings involve a lot of jewelry. A LOT.

We know that many of you will have jewelry not only from your wedding day but from your bridal trousseau as well. The question is, what to do with all these elaborate (and expensive) pieces once the big day is over?

Sonam Kapoor* shows us that these intricate jewels do not have to be relegated to your drawer. Here she mixed traditional kundan style jewelry (similar to this bride's) with an Anamika Khanna dress for a one of a kind look. We kind of love it!

This is just one example but there's so much you can do. Skinny jeans, white t-shirt, kundan jewelry. Check.

*That girl loves to accessorize and we have to admit, does it quite well. Does she get it from Anil Kapoor?

Get Your Tassel On

So lately we've noticed a resurgence of tassel earrings everywhere from Marc Jacobs to Forever21. We never thought we'd be able to incorporate this trend into desi bridal jewelry but the image below proves us wrong! It just goes to show that you can always mix and match trends in new ways. This is definitely an East meets West story!
