All Tied Up

image via the decorista. original styling and photography unknown.

Just wanted to show a pretty picture today and this tulle runner and tablecloth all tied up really caught our eye. Love all the different elements that make up the overall look: the pastel chairs, curved table legs, delicate flowers, and scalloped china. But the finishing touch of the nipped cloth really pulls the whole table together, don't you think? A simple and easy trick you could try out for your own events.

Check out two previous posts on nips, tucks, and ties here and here.

All Lit Up

image credit unknown. please let us know if you know the original source!

Today we thought we'd talk about lights. Specifically the South Asian tradition of stringing lights all over the house during wedding festivities. There's something so sweet about the idea of family and community coming together and basically telling the whole world that yes, there is a wedding happening! It really gets the celebration started - with the whole block buzzing with excitement leading up to the big events.

But do you think you would follow this tradition out here? Or do you think you lose a bit of the magic without the whole neighborhood participating in the festive mood? What do you think about just putting up a few strings of lights, in a nod to the tradition? We'd love to hear your thoughts!

Stripes II

image via the decorista/original image source unknown/please let us know if you know it!

Speaking of stripes, we thought we'd share another example of just how versatile they can be. With a few tweaks, like ornate brass candelabras and lots of candlelight, stripes can be the perfect backdrop for a far more dramatic tablescape. We love how the striped tablecloth adds some visual interest, and really pulls together the dark, intimate feel of this table setting.

Stripes I

Stripes are such an easy way to dress up a tabletop. We love how the colorful party props just pop against the black and white placemats. And the patterned napkins layered on top, in the same color family, add just the right finishing touch to a playful table.

Chanel: Paris to Bombay

The recent Chanel Paris-Bombay Pre-Fall 2012 collection inspired by Moghul-era India certainly captivated quite a few of us out there. But in terms of our little wedding blog, we wanted to focus on the decor. It was nice to see traditional elements such as fruit in silver platters and goblets, jasmine flowers and rose petals strewn on tables, and intricately carved silver boxes done in a fresh way. We especially like the color-blocked macaroons and Indian sweets.

It seems as though Paris is having a bit of a love affair with all things Indian at the moment. Did anyone check out the recent article in T magazine with a guide to the Indian subculture in Paris? We thought the comments were interesting.

Colorful Cutlery

Love the idea of adding a bit of color to mismatched cutlery for a playful touch. And all it takes is some spray paint. You could go with fun, neon colors like these, but it would work equally well with a simple white, don't you think? Such an easy way to dress up a tablescape.

You can check out the complete DIY guide over on Sania Pell's blog.

Bougainvillea

image by Jose Villa via Once Wed

We have always loved bougainvillea. The way it always seems to cascade down quaint buildings, usually in exotic, faraway places. Maybe because we feel like we're on vacation when we see it, or perhaps because it reminds us of when we were kids, growing up overseas in warm locales. Either way, it's definitely a favorite, so we were excited to see this tablescape full of bougainvillea over on Once Wed, where they're talking about using what's locally available when planning destination weddings. A great tip, because not only does it save you money, it also makes things a whole lot easier. Plus, you've already picked the destination because you love it, so there's a pretty good chance you'll love what's locally available too!

Stages

We've already done a round-up of some of our favorite mandaps, but today we wanted to show some options for stages - specifically the simple elegance of flowers on either side. We love how it adds just the right amount of decor and highlights the couple. Enjoy!

Glass Bottles and Tapered Candles

images via this is glamorous

Love the simplicity of this tablescape. Just a cluster of clear glass wine bottles with tapered candles of varying heights. An elegant way to light up a room don't you think?

And best of all, this idea would work equally well for dressing up an escort table, a mantlepiece or any other little nooks and crannies in a room.

Sparkly Napkin Holders

image via this is glamorous originally from Martha Stewart Living

When we came across these sparkly napkin holders, we couldn't resist sharing. They're just so fun, and you know how much we love anything that sparkles. On top of that, they're easy to make. All you have to do is wrap sequin strings and paillettes around styrofoam spheres and voila, you have the perfect little accessories for your tabletop. These would be great for any party or wedding, but would be especially perfect for a new years eve shindig don't you think?

While doing our usual online shopping we came across these vases at Urban Outfitters. Lovely, no? And the whole look is pretty easy to replicate with a few items you may already have lying around the house.

Sitting Pretty

Sometimes unexpected chairs can add just the right touch. Love the buttons down the back of the chairs on the left, and the fun colorful chairs on the right completely transform the space. Definitely something to think about...

Streamers + Pom Poms

Ever since Martha Stewart Weddings created the pom pom diy guide, they have been popping up everywhere. And streamers just look good, so we decided to put some of our favorite pictures up. Plus, these looks are so easy to replicate.

top, second row left and fifth row images via ashley meaders; second row right via storybox art; third row via design is mine; fourth row left via once wed - designed by joy thigpen; chair with streamers via jose villa photography;

The third row image is from a street fair in France and looks so similar to a lot of barat entrances in India! Also, Ashley Meaders from Dolci Odille has done some amazing work with this concept.

Party Supplies!

So we thought we'd round out our party series with some fun items that are bound to make any party a little more fabulous. How can you not have fun with a swipe of bright pink lipstick, and a whole lot of glitter and sparkle. The last wedding we went to had some props laying about next to the dance floor and it just got everyone more in the dancing mood. Now let's get the party started!

1. mini sparklers
2. petal pink pinata (with a lovely tutorial by inchmark!)
3.
silver candlestick
4. nars lipstick
5. heart sunglasses
6.
silver confetti
7. party horns
8. white cupcake holders via duet weddings
9. pink confetti

p.s. all of this kinda reminds us of our disco inspiration board.
