A Crown of Flowers

Stylist Linda Sundqvist's flower wreath and JCrew's spring catalog have us thinking of all those nights when brides traditionally adorn themselves with flowers as opposed to jewelry. We're thinking these crowns would be perfect for a mayoon, haldi, mehndi or sangeet.

At the very least, it's making us rethink the flowers to be used for haars, jai malas and flower jewelry at weddings.

That 20s Hair

Well, this week certainly seems to be one of image round-ups, but we've been meaning to discuss this hairstyle for a while now - you know, that roaring wavy 20s look? The tight curl right next to the forehead just looks so elegant with a sari.

We actually requested this at the last wedding we went to and the hairstylist mentioned that it takes a while to recreate and works better when done in a salon (with all their gadgets and hair dryers we guess). Are we just horribly helpless when it comes to matters of hair, or do you think you could pull this off without the help of a stylist?

p.s. - That top Ritu Kumar ad really makes us want to get on a train with a long sari pallu! And Devika Rani just does it so well....

Flowers and Hair

Speaking of flowers and headpieces, we wanted to share this image we recently stumbled upon - an interesting twist on the traditional flower headpiece look. We're kinda digging it, what say you?

It kind of makes us want to frolic through fields slow motion filmi-style (even though you know those fields are actually really muddy).

Just a Peek

Flowers are used pretty much everywhere at weddings, but that hint of one right behind the ear is always alluring. There's just so much you can do with them - tuck a bloom behind your ear for a playful look, arrange a few dramatic pieces just so, or even just add a spray of pretty jasmine for a traditional touch. It's an organic, girly way to complete your look.

Plus, we love looking at how other people do the look with their jewelry and dupattas....

p.s. - a couple of our friends have done this look at their weddings and it looked lovely on them!

Regal Reign

Hair matters. A lot. When it comes to a mehndi or sangeet we're all about the hair being piled to one side. Whether it's a big curly mass, a braid, or even just a sleek ponytail, putting it to one side is a good look.

This works so well because there's something very regal about the look, and regal kind of works really well with a mehndi, don't you think?

Whatever the reason, this look is what we keep coming back to again and again. Add a jhoomar and some flowers and you can do no wrong in our books!

Take it Back to the Sixties

Let's talk about hair shall we? Specifically from the 60s. It's big, it's loud, and it definitely makes a statement.

The volume not only looks good but it's also really functional for your big day. It holds jewelry really well because there's so much hair piled up for hair accessories to hold onto. Also, when you place your dupatta so high it gives an elegant silhouette to your overall look.

After all, there's a reason the beehive was such an iconic look. Sharmila Tagore and Saira Banoo really popularized the look in India and can still manage to provide inspiration today. Here's a look at the style through the ages.
