New York Fashion Week Invites

Saw this round up of New York Fashion Week invites on Refinery 29 and had to share. All the quirky details, from the bubble wrap to the box full of macarons, make for some pretty fun invites! And although some of them are a little extravagant, you could definitely incorporate quite a few of these ideas into your very own set of paper goods.

You can check out even more of the creative invites here. We're off to find us some bubble wrap so we can get to snapping.

Just some simple, elegant menus. Absolutely love the variety in typography and that leaf accent is the perfect touch.

Illustrated Menus

Some illustrated menus for those who want to add a playful touch. You can definitely have some fun with these!

Erin Jang designed the top two and her blog has a great breakdown of all the different graphics she used!

Hand Drawn Menus

For those of you looking to make some menus from scratch, the ones below are so charming with their hand written goodness. It goes to show that you can make an impact with your own style of writing.

The menu on the left is from grill'd and the one on the right has a matching tutorial. Plus, fork stencils go a long way with us so of course we were going to show this.

A Little Note

We wanted to share this sweet DIY invitation suite sent to us by a reader - love it when we hear from our readers! Swethaa was inspired by our stamp post, and decided to use the elephant stamp from paper source and hand write notes to her guests. She also made matching envelopes with stamps and initials, and added bindis for a little bit of sparkle.

Such a warm, personal way to extend an invitation!

Save The Date

When Lotus and Leaf sent over this whimsical save-the-date, we were taken by the fun twist on mughal miniatures and the hand painted poster aesthetic of south asia. It's a bit of a postmodern take, quite like these ones.

Designed by the bride's brother, Mustafa Faruki, these save-the-dates were perfect for the couple's multiple festivities spanning the globe - and had some nice little nods to their muslim and hindu backgrounds.

p.s. our brother is in art school and all about mughal artwork these days, so of course we had to share this save the date!

More Stamp Love

Remember when we mentioned our love for paper source's India inspired stamps? Well, we just came across a real bride who used them for her save the dates - love the vintage, old-world feel to them.

Shyla used the stamps to create an embossed image and wrote personal handwritten notes to each guest inviting them to the wedding. To top it off, she lined the envelopes with newspaper clippings from the India West paper and sealed them with wax!

A Lovely Touch

images via paper source

These stamps have already made the blog rounds but we wanted to put our two cents in too, because that's how we roll. Woudn't they add a lovely touch to save-the-dates or place cards - so simple (and budget-friendly too!).

Pretty Pretty Paper

images via paper source

Have you guys seen the India/Lokta/Nepal decorative papers at Paper Source? They've been available for a while now but they're still going strong - and very pretty if we do say so ourselves. We see them being used to wrap mithai boxes (of course!), as envelope liners, or even just a strip or two around your menus/placecards. And remember, a little bit of the paper can go a long way!

Confetti in the Mail

image via creature comforts

We saw this confetti filled save the date on creature comforts and were instantly inspired. You all know our obsession with confetti, so the idea of sending handfuls of it in the mail - we were in love. It's just such a cheerful way to announce a wedding, and would totally put people in a celebratory mood.

What's even better is the sheer simplicity of it all. All you need are clear envelopes, different sized circle cutouts (in any color you choose) and a rubber stamp with your save the date information. Voila, you're done.

Bright Lights and Showbiz

i do it yourself - a virtual treasure trove of DIY design ideas and materials - has been a favorite website of ours for a while. It always manages to have tons of free goodies that you can use to make your day look even better. In fact we've used their font downloads to make programs and menus for some of our own parties. So when we stumbled upon this free type by Ray Larabie - yes FREE - we couldn't resist sharing. It's so bold - all bright lights and showbiz glitz!

Quirky Story Invites

images via pingg and nymag via idiy

Lately we've noticed a trend of story invitations. Albeit a little TMI (too much information) they're quirky, cute, and tell a lot about the couple getting married! Plus it's always nice to read a good story. The invite on the left was sent out for a surprise wedding, the save the date on the right reads like 164 Facebook status updates. Make sure to check out the links if you want to see them in more detail.

What are your thoughts on this trend? One of us thinks this is super cute and the other one isn't completely sold on the idea.

More than an Invitation

Anna Bond of Rifle Design has certainly been making the blog rounds this past year and it's easy to see why. Not only do you get a hand illustrated invitation, but you also get her. It's a very personal experience where you get to work with her directly to create a look that reflects your wedding. Her typical process involves hand-drawn lettering which is scanned and colored on a computer and then sent to a printer to be silk-screened.

Above are two of our personal favorite invitation suites she has done. The yellow invitation was inspired by fairy tale typography. The navy invitation on the right was inspired by the venue of the wedding - Gramercy Park Hotel in Manhattan - and the bride's love of astrology. The result is a refined playfulness.

Yet ANOTHER confession: We love the Gramercy Park Hotel. It's an amazing location for a wedding.

Vintage Bollywood

Boy meets girl. Both burst into song and dance. A bollywood story is born.

The posters that tell that story are a whole other category. Lately, we've been looking over vintage bollywood posters and the artwork is fun, over the top, and just plain good (which is no surprise considering many of them are handpainted works of art).

If you're really a fan, it would be great to incorporate these into your wedding. Everything from table numbers, place cards, programs to invitations could use a little retro touch. And for a bold statement, you could even project images of these posters onto the walls of your venue and turn a blank canvas into a gallery.

The possibilities are endless.
